The Three Rivers Gem & Mineral Society

CLUB PROGRAMS

WHAT TO EXPECT:
Our usual meeting begins with introducing guests or new members, followed by show and tell. Field trip information is given and then our junior leader takes the junior members out to their own meeting while the business meeting is conducted. Once the business meeting is done, there is a short break for refreshments and the juniors rejoin the group. Parents can opt to take their children home (this is a school night) or stay for the program.

KINDS OF PROGRAMS
Some programs are presentations using powerpoint to educate.

Other programs feature material purchased from a specific location and members get hands-on experience to find specimens in bulk material. Here are photos showing members searching through bulk dirt out of a Montana sapphire mine and what one member found.

Getting experience in flint knapping

Hands-on instruction

Learning to create a scrimshaw piece

Getting experience in flint knapping
Some programs teach "how to" skills.

Occasionally, we may have a special speaker at a different location. This was a presentation on mastodons at PFW.

Our December Christmas Party is lots of fun, with a potluck and games.
